White Paper - From Plans to Portfolios

$21.99Price

For most of the twentieth century, strategic planning operated on a tacit assumption: that the future was, at minimum, foreseeable in its broad outlines. Leaders drafted multi-year plans, set firm targets, and allocated resources accordingly. Execution discipline was the differentiator. The plan was the strategy.

That assumption is no longer tenable. The combination of geopolitical fragmentation, artificial intelligence disruption, accelerating climate impacts, and compressing technology cycles has produced an environment in which the range of plausible futures is so wide that any single plan is, by construction, wrong about something consequential. Organizations that persist in "the plan" mindset are not just making a tactical error — they are using a structural mismatch between their planning apparatus and the nature of the world they inhabit.
